Essential Ellowyne Five Review

Hey, guys! Noelle, my Essential Ellowyne Five doll, has been awaiting her review for the past week or so, and I finally present it to you all with much excitement! I hope you guys like the review, and for those of you who are thinking about purchasing an Ellowyne doll I hope this is helpful to you. :)

And be warned, this review contains pictures of my Tonner dolls unclothed for comparison.

There's the box. It arrived in a white shipper, and both were thankfully unscathed. There's the first glimpse!

There’s the first glimpse!

I had ordered Noelle on a Friday, she shipped the next day and arrived on Monday! It was a total surprise, since the seller on eBay upped the shipping to Priority Mail for free! I was so happy to get her so early.

She came with a net protecting her vibrant red hair, which was a little mussed but easily neatened with a quick brushing.

There she is in her beautiful little outfit. I was so pleased when I found out she came with Mary Janes instead of plain old sandals. Her stockings are very pretty - a nice addition to any outfit.

I was so pleased when I found out she came with Mary Janes instead of plain old sandals. Her stockings are very pretty as well – a nice addition to any outfit. I have tried them on under multiple skirts and things, and it dresses up the plainer garments like magic!

Tip: To get the shoes on over the stockings, slip the stocking into the shoe before putting either on her foot, then slip them on together. This prevents the stocking from stretching and eventually tearing.

Her tank top is a thin material but seems quality, and she’s actually wearing a skirt with little shorts attached underneath. As usual for Tonner, both garments close with snaps in the back.

She comes with a nice saran wig. Well, nice enough. I was a little disappointed - more with the wig itself than the actual hair. There was an awkward loop of thread randomly protruding from the wig near her hairline, and a couple of days after I got her I was carefully removing her wig when one of the two pieces of Velcro attaching the wig came right off her head. For a temporary fix, I attached the Velcro to her scalp with a piece of carpenter's tape. I had to replace it several times, as the stickiness kept wearing off

I got the Essential Ellowyne Five with red hair and green eyes. I must say, the color of the hair is brighter on camera than in person! ;)

She comes with a nice saran wig. Well, nice enough. I was a little disappointed – more with the construction of the wig itself than the actual hair. There was an awkward loop of thread randomly protruding from the wig near her hairline, and a couple of days after I got her I was carefully removing her wig when one of the two pieces of Velcro that attach the wig to her head peeled right off her scalp.

For a temporary fix, I attached the Velcro to her scalp with a piece of carpenter’s tape. I had to replace it several times, as the stickiness kept wearing off and her hairline would slowly recede as the wig slipped off. As a more permanent fix, I ordered a silicone dome cap online that will fix the problem.

Here is Noelle unclothed

Here is Noelle unclothed. She is made of a nice, solid plastic, and her knee joints are the ordinary hinge joint, though they are strong. She doesn’t come close to crossing her arms, as you can see.

I had gathered from the pictures of Ellowyne I’d seen online that her body had more of a matte finish and a solid feel than the Antoinette body, and I was very glad to see those speculations prove true when I pulled her from the box and realized how heavy she was.

Unlike the Tonner Antoinette body

Unlike the Tonner Antoinette body, her chest joint is not very mobile. It cannot move at all from front to back, and only a little from side to side.

The poseability of the Ellowyne body is a tad disappointing, but her proportions were so much more realistic and her face was so gorgeous that I was willing to make the sacrifice. It turns out that some of those things aren’t even a problem.

Ellowyne

Ellowyne body VS. Antoinette body

Here is Noelle compared to my Tonner Cami doll, who has the Antoinette body. When I got my Cami doll I didn’t know what to name her, so I called her Antoinette. That is how I will refer to her in this review.

You see, Noelle’s proportions are similar to a teenager’s, and her larger head gives her more of the play doll appearance, which is part of what drew me to her. Noelle’s hands are much more rounded and realistically shaped compared to Antoinette’s, and Noelle’s skin tone is much more lifelike – it doesn’t have that grayish tinge.

Noelle

Ellowyne body VS. Antoinette body

I noted even before I got to look at the Ellowyne body in person, that her legs are shorter than Antoinette’s, but the bigger head makes up the difference in height, making them both 16″ tall. I also noticed one drawback with Noelle’s body: the knee joint. I mentioned before how it’s the regular hinge joint, and it is a nice joint, but it lacks the ability to pivot, which is something I got used to with Fashionista Barbies and Antoinette.

You may also notice that Noelle’s feet are slanted a little more horizontally, which was a plus for me. She also lacks an ankle joint, but considering how little Antoinette’s ankle moves it doesn’t bother me. Another small drawback is that Noelle’s hips don’t pivot very much, either. You can see in the last picture that Antoinette’s hips (right) can turn outward quite a bit whereas Noelle’s (left) can hardly pivot at all.

Ellowyne

Noelle’s arms are much shorter in relation to her body.

You can see here that Antoinette’s elbows bend a little more than Noelle’s due to the roundness of Noelle’s arms. There wasn’t a big difference, however, so it was easily overlooked for me.

Above is another example of the difference in the chest joint. As you can see, Antoinette (right) can arch her back quite a bit, and she can slouch (which can be difficult when sewing clothes for her, due to her constant change of shape depending on the angle of her chest joint). Also, Noelle (left) can touch her face more easily since her head is so much larger. XD

wow

Antoinette can look up and down much farther than Noelle. But again, I enjoy Noelle’s face so much that it doesn’t bother me a lot.

wow

Another example of the difference in knee joints. Noelle is on the left, and Antoinette is on the right.

wow

Noelle and Antoinette must suffer an outfit swap. ;)

Antoinette’s outfit is rather snug and a little too low on Noelle (top), and because Antoinette’s shoes are more vertical, Noelle’s heels hang off the edge a tad.

Antoinette (bottom), on the other hand, doesn’t come close to filling out Noelle’s shirt, and the foot difference makes it to where the heel of Noelle’s shoe doesn’t touch the ground when Antoinette wears it.

The

All the sisters together. ;)

In short, I am glad to have Anna, Antoinette, and Noelle. And where she lacks in poseability, Noelle’s beauty and versatility makes up for it. She is officially my favorite fashion doll, and worth every penny. I would definitely recommend her for collectors of all ages. :D
